Comes The Inquisitor

There’s a bit of a snag with the final post for the World of Warcraft project, so I just thought I’d keep you all updated on that. We’re working as quickly as we can to get it all sorted out, so in the meantime, I, uh….

….yeah, for now, I got nothin’. This is a learning experience for all of us, and since we’re just starting out, we’re having one of those hiccups where two of us are between projects and our only current project is going so very slowly. I can assure you, however, we’re not finished yet, as I’ve already set in motion what’s going to be our next project. Here’s a hint: This will make Jack Thompson a very very happy man for about fifteen seconds. Then he’ll actually read it and become enraged– whoops, I forgot, he won’t read it because he thinks I can’t read*. He’ll probably just be enraged, now that I think about it. So actually this wasn’t much of a hint.

So I can promise you folks that I’ll be starting my new project “soon”– let’s say a week from Monday. It’s gonna be a glorious new start, because, my brothers and sisters, we’re heading back to the old ‘hood.

See you when we see you.

* — If this was South Park there would be a big flashing subtitle there that read “YES, HE REALLY THINKS THAT”.

New Writer, Fresh Meat

Just wanted to take this opportunity to welcome our newest writer, Mike “PsychoPez” Hasko. He’ll be covering Madden NFL ‘07 for the PC for us. And believe me when I say nobody has more hatred for John Madden than Mike Hasko. Please check out the opening shots.

We’re also nearing the end of our first projects, and we thank you for bearing with us during the slight hiccups we were dealing with. I can assure you we’re back in business. Incidentally, so is the other site I write for, Netjak. (That’s also what I’ve been busy with.) So go there, too.

Now, then, let’s get back to the invective.

It’s Not Over Yet

All right, folks, it’s confession time. After my abortive attempt to log in on Monday, I have steadfastly refused to log in to WoW at all. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s all the other ways in which my life has gone to shit in the past two days.

Anyway, the details of why I’m not playing aren’t quite as important as the fact that I haven’t brought teh funni since last week. (Arguably it could be said that I have, in fact, never brought teh funni but to that I say– it’s my damn site and I’ll do what I want with it.) What this means is that, rather than cut the project short, or do both you and the game a disservice by not going through the full thirty days, I’m going to extend my trial period by one week; the new trial period will end on September 2nd, 2006. That’s right, Blizzard is going to get at least $15 out of me. I figure they deserve it, at least for not letting the Tauren Male dance be “the milkshake song”.

I do have real-life and personal stuff to take care of today, none of which is any of your business, so don’t ask. If all goes according to plan, I’ll at least have one twelve-hour Catass-a-thon to report on between now and the end of the month.

As soon as I have one more play session (normal length) under my belt, I’ll do up a “midway point” report. ‘Till then, En Taro Adun– damn, wait, that’s Starcraft. Meh, same difference.

Welcome To The Unbelievers

Hi, folks. Welcome to this here project called: “The Unbelievers”. In a nutshell, this site provides… well, at the risk of sounding like a New Games Journalist douchebag, what we do here isn’t strictly ‘review’ games. Our take on the whole thing is to ridicule and mock them mercilessly.

Wait, that still makes us sound like douchebags. Let me start over.

Anyone ever watch “Titanic”? You know, mid-90’s movie, intolerably long, kinda sappy, and with a noticeable lack of Bill Paxton being funny. Right, that Titanic. OK. Now imagine the kind of review of Titanic that someone who absolutely hates ‘disaster’ movies would write, after being forced to watch Titanic, all the way through, five times in a row. Think of that one scene from Billy Joel’s “Pressure” video, but more cruel. And with less Billy Joel (though whether or not that qualifies as “more cruel” is up to you). It’s kind of like that.

Seriously, the idea is that everyone is biased. Everyone. You know all those lunatics screaming about how the mainstream media is full of sycophantic cronies who hate freedom (regardless of what side of the political spectrum they’re actually on)? They’re right. Well, except for the part about hating freedom. Nobody today will give you a straight answer. Everyone will only tell you what they think you want to hear– or, more appropriately, what they want you to want to hear.

We’re different. At least, I like to think we are. The basic idea behind “The Unbelievers” is that we’re playing games we hate to see if they’re really as good– or as bad– as everyone says they are. We put our bias up front, right there for you to see. We hate the game already, before we even unwrap it from the plastic. It’s up to the game itself to prove us wrong… or to confirm our suspicions.

To do this, we have to make sure we’re not making just snap judgements. So we make sure we’re committed for the long haul. Thirty days for big projects, like World of Warcraft or Dance Dance Revolution; smaller tasks (yet to be determined) will have lesser durations. Through it all, we report on our biases, our impressions, and the silly stuff that we notice about the game.

Is it going to be informative? Possibly, but reading this for a serious opinion is kind of like eating three boxes of Fruity Pebbles for your dose of Vitamin C. Is it going to be our honest opinion? You betcha.

Will there be mocking of the fanboys? Oh, so very much yes there will.

So that’s that. Please have a look at our projects, and drop by the forums– we always welcome feedback.

And one last thing: Enjoy the site for what it is. An inquisition.
